One Step Africa: Projects

Since 2010 One Step Africa has been involved with various projects in the Eastern Africa region. We currently operate in the following countries:

Uganda

Home to our main clinic and operations center, One Step Africa has worked tirelessly in an effort to fully connect all communities in Uganda to accessible prosthetics healthcare. Initially creating field clinics and workshops throughout the country, and working with the distribution services of the Coca-Cola Sabco franchise to continue far reaching transport of people and supplies, our Ugandan operations now boast one of the most well connected prosthetics networks in the developing world.

Rwanda

Collaborations with the distributers of the local Bralirwa brewer and soft beverage company have ensured a strong supply chain from the main research institute in Kigali. One Step Africa's next objective has been to engage with the Kicukiro College of Technology to provide trained healthcare professionals to travel to some of the smaller clinics and workshops based around the country.

Burundi

Rwanda's southern neighbour, Burundi provided the first experiences of creating a network to move medical personnel and eqipment across national borders. Utilising assistance from the same organisations in Rwanda, One Step Africa were able to begin extending operations succesfully into neighbouring contries.

South Sudan

Following South Sudan's newfound independance in 2011, One Step Africa sent trained technicians to open the nation's first prosthetic field clinics in the Equatoria regions, bringing basic artificial limb technology to the world's newest nation. Supplies and personnel are now dispatched on a regular basis from our headquarters in neighbouring Uganda.

DR Congo

Working in the towns of Butembo, Beni and Bunia in the North Kivu and Orientale provinces of the DRC, One Step Africa began operating a small network to import prosthetic supplies from Uganda and distribute them around the area. Working together with the local Bralima brewery company and an international mining affiliate, ad-hoc deliveries are now possible in some of Africa's poorest and most remote communities.

Zambia

One Step Africa's newest project, working alongside the Danida water sanitation organisation operating in northern and western Zambia, the objective is to create an infrastructure network that will facilitate the movement of people and skills southwards from our Ugandan and Rwandan clinics, whilst bringing cheap and more widely available products and technologies from South Africa and Botswana.
